How it works

How Our Referral Service Works

Water Restoration New York is not a restoration contractor. We are a free referral service that connects people with water damage to independent, locally operating restoration companies that serve their area.

What happens when you call

  1. You call

Call (800) 000-0000 any time, day or night. Calls are answered 24 hours a day.

  2. You are connected

Based on your ZIP code and what happened, your call is connected with an independent restoration company that serves your area.

  3. They confirm arrival

The company confirms when a technician can arrive and talks you through stopping the water and staying safe.

  4. They inspect and estimate

On site, the company inspects the damage, measures moisture, and gives you its own estimate. You decide whether to hire them.

Our referral disclosure

Water Restoration New York is a free referral service, not a restoration contractor. When you call, you are connected with an independent, locally operating water damage restoration company that serves your area. That company inspects the damage, gives you its own estimate, and does the work. We may be paid for connecting you.

We do not inspect homes, perform work, or set prices. Each restoration company is independently owned and operated and is responsible for its own work, licensing, insurance, estimates and warranties. We may receive a fee for connecting callers with companies, which does not change what you pay.

What you should check before hiring

  • The company’s county home improvement license or registration (Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Putnam or Rockland) or New York City license, where required.
  • Proof of general liability and workers’ compensation insurance.
  • A written work authorization for emergency services and a written estimate or contract for repairs.
  • For mold over 10 square feet, a New York State licensed mold assessor and a separate licensed remediation contractor.

Why use a referral service?

In an emergency, it is hard to research companies at 2 a.m. with water on the floor. One call reaches a company that serves your area and is available now. The guides on this site are written to help you understand the work and ask the right questions, whichever company you choose.

Common questions

Questions about how this works

Does it cost anything to call?

No. Calling is free and there is no obligation. Any charges are set by the restoration company you choose to hire.

Are you the company that will do the work?

No. The work is done by an independent restoration company. It inspects, estimates and performs the work under its own name.

How are you paid?

We may receive a fee for connecting callers with restoration companies. That fee is not added to your bill.

What if I am not happy with the company?

You are never obligated to hire the company you are connected with. If you have a complaint about a contractor’s work, contact the company directly, and your county consumer affairs office if needed.
